Pharos University in Alexandria

Pharos University in Alexandria (PUA) جامعة فاروس بالإسكندرية is a non-governmental and profit making university in Alexandria, Egypt. It is one of only two private universities in Alexandria offering bachelor degrees of 4 and 5 years. The only other is the Arab Academy for Science and Technology

Pharos University obtained the license from the Egyptian supreme council of private universities to operate in the academic year of 2006 / 2007. It includes eleven faculties: Dentistry, Pharmacy and Drug Manufacturing, Engineering, Languages and translation, Financial and Administrative Sciences, Legal Studies, Tourism and Hotel management, Allied Medical Sciences, Mass Communication, Physical Therapy, and Arts and Design.

The mission of Pharos University is to provide qualitative higher educational opportunities that would enable students to develop advanced knowledge and skills, provide leadership and service to their communities, and improve the productivity of their organizations through the integration of the educational and research capabilities.

The university is located in the suburb of Smouha, 3 km from the main campus of the Alexandria University and 4 km from downtown Alexandria. The University extends over an area measuring approximately 183,000 square meters.

The name "Pharos" refers to the lighthouse built in Alexandria during the Greco-Egyptian period. One of the seven wonders of the world, the lighthouse has long been an emblem of the cosmopolitan city.
